One Room Challenge // Week 2

11 October 2017
It's Week 2 of the One Room Challenge and I definitely have a lot of updates to share!

First I'd like to announce the unofficial ORC hashtag for my bathroom update, since the #worldsokayestpowderroom was already taken.

Inspired by the beachside lady in her teeny-green-bikini who is living her best life, I'm ready for this bathroom to be living its best life.

it is.

This week I'm going to get all chatty about the design decisions that I've been making PLUS all the manual labor that my awesome husband has been putting into making this bathroom makeover a reality.

However, before we discuss reality, let's visit my imagination:

There are THREE items around which I am designing this space: the marble hexagon floor, this gorgeous natural wood vanity and (my fave) oil painting of a lady on a beach (living her best life). I am envisioning a bright white bathroom with added warmth through artwork, rug and linens. Polished chrome and brushed brass finishes will also be mixed into the design.

Oh and hey, I'm so pumped to be able to hang this oil painting for obvious reasons but especially because it is an original by my dad, so of course it's extra special to me. It's always been one of my favorites and the colors are so fresh and fun.

While I love to talk about all the decorative stuff, it's important I share the spotlight with Brian, who has been working so so hard. Subfloor is in, and the hex tile is installed! Big step, people!

Goodbye, Orange Subfloor. Hello, Sexy Hexy!

Next I need to get scheming on some of the accessories and decor. Specifically the area rug. I go back and forth: on one hand, I'd like to be practical (finding an inexpensive bath mat that can be thrown into the washing machine on a regular basis) but then the designer part of my brain that envisions a beautiful vintage Persian rug gets all worked up and kicks the practical side to the curb. We will see. I'll have some more updates next week!

In the meantime, follow along on Instagram and Pinterest for more updates and be sure to check out the other guest participants!

  3. This looks amazing! Your dad is so talented - he may need two careers. Excited to follow along on progress.

  4. Absolutely love the painting! Hex floors look terrific as does your illustration. I say go for the persian, you won't regret it. I have one in my bathroom and it is all the difference.

    1. You're totally totally right. It's the kind of detail that makes the space!

  5. That illustration! Gosh, it's beautiful. I want to hang it my bathroom. :) I love that your dad is the artist for the painting you are hanging too. <3
