One Room Challenge // Week 1

04 October 2017
Oh boy, here goes nothing! I'm back again for the One Room Challenge!
This is my second time joining in as a guest participant in the biannual six week challenge to design and finish a room of your choice. Linda of Calling It Home started the ORC 12 seasons ago and these days it has become so popular that House Beautiful has become a media sponsor for the whole shebang!

Last time we made-over our powder room. Originally dubbed the "World's Okayest Powder Room," it is now my favorite room in our house. This round we will be finishing the upstairs bathroom. At this point the upstairs bathroom is used by our whole family and when we moved into our 90 year old colonial the bathroom was a plethora of mauve and polished brass and diamond-motif-painted ceramic and ... as I write out these items I realize I AM currently loving mauve and brass and diamond-shaped-motifs in 2017... but believe me when I say this bathroom was totally 80s outdated and all "gag me with a spoon."

So let me spare you the ugly. This is where our journey begins:

Over the next six weeks, I'll be selecting the fixtures and finishes for the bathroom including floor tile, wall tile/shower surround tile, paint colors, vanity, lighting, hardware and accessories. My lucky husband, whom we will refer to as "Bri-Guy," will be installing said design decisions.

I've been spending plenty of time on Pinterest scheming and finding inspiration. Since we moved in 4 years ago, my husband and I have been working to make our home a charming mix of traditional with modern elements and pops of contemporary design.

I'm really feeling the mix of old and new, cool tones with warm tones, bright and clean vibes with eclectic art and textiles. I already have the floor tile selected (below). I fell in love with this marble hex mosaic and I knew we had an upcoming bathroom to makeover so it's been in the back of my mind since early summer.

I'm so glad you're following along! Make sure to follow me on Instagram for progress updates and look for the other guest participants here! Good luck everyone!
